Get started

Before you can start developing for BlackBerry PlayBook OS, there are a few things that you need to do:

Install the Native SDK

You need to install the BlackBerry Native SDK for Tablet OS to get the code libraries and the command line tools you need for developing in Microsoft Visual Studio. Only Windows is supported for the BlackBerry Native Plug-in for Microsoft Visual Studio.

Although the BlackBerry Native SDK is bundled with the QNX Momentics IDE, you do not need to open the IDE.

  1. Download the BlackBerry Native SDK for Tablet OS
  2. Follow the instructions to install the BlackBerry Native SDK.

Install the simulator (optional)

If you don't have a BlackBerry PlayBook, you can use the BlackBerry Tablet Simulator to test your applications. If you have a BlackBerry PlayBook, then you don't need the simulator.

For more information about the simulator, go to Installing the simulator. Check the system requirements for the appropriate version to install.
