Q: From a development perspective, what are the unique features about the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet? Why have you chosen the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and not another tablet?

Robert and Michał: There were a few reasons we were attracted to the BlackBerry PlayBook. For one, it is the first device with a true dual-core processing unit. We tested Doodle Blast on single core devices, and they didn't measure up to the BlackBerry PlayBook. It was really the dual processing that enabled us to build a game that users are going to really love. The second big thing is the size. The BlackBerry PlayBook is the ideal screen size for Doodle Blast because you need to draw lines by hand. The gaming experience didn't translate very well on a ten-inch screen.

Q: You built Doodle Blast using Adobe Flash. How important was it to have Adobe Flash capabilities?

Robert and Michał: Ha! Well, it was important to us because we're very good with Adobe Flash! But seriously, we build our games using Adobe Flash and develop our games primarily for the web. This gives us the opportunity to sell our apps on many different platforms. However, for us, the BlackBerry PlayBook is the ideal tablet for creating games like Doodle Blast. We don't have to develop code for each medium and this certainly makes the development much easier for us.

Q. And what about the business side? What kind of support are you getting from Research In Motion® (RIM®)?

Robert and Michał: Having Doodle Blast featured in BlackBerry World was huge when we first launched the app. All of a sudden, we went from 200 downloads a day to 2,000 downloads a day. Being from Poland, BlackBerry World has given us a great advantage and has made it much easier for us get all of our apps to the masses.
As for the BlackBerry PlayBook, it has definitely been a major advantage for us as well. The device has given us a great growth opportunity and we've had really positive feedback from BlackBerry PlayBook users.

Q. Right now, you're not using any ads and you're not charging for the game. How have you monetized the app?

Robert and Michał: As a company, we're not big fans of advertizing in applications. That's one of the reasons why Doodle Blast was free to download when it first launched. It also earned us the freedom to do some testing to see what people liked and what we should enhance or change in future versions of the game. We now have launched a bunch of upgrades to the application. For a small price the user can now purchase more levels and enjoy the game even longer.
