Create the Keyboard application

In this tutorial, we'll show you how to use the BlackBerry Native SDK for Tablet OS to capture and process input from the virtual keyboard of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. The application we'll build takes the BlackBerry Tablet OS OpenGL ES 1.1 Application Template Project from the QNX Momentics IDE and adds a keyboard handler that changes the rotation speed of the displayed object, shows and hides the keyboard, and changes the keyboard layout. You'll also see how to take input from the keyboard and output the corresponding characters to the console for debugging purposes. You can take the concepts you learn here to build keyboard handlers to control your applications.

Alternatively, you can walk through the completed Keyboard project.

You will learn to:

  • Configure your project
  • Show the virtual keyboard
  • Process keyboard input
  • Change the behavior of your application
