Configure your environment for development and deployment

The BlackBerry Tablet OS Deployment Setup Wizard in the IDE walks you through configuring your environment for creating applications and deploying them to your device.

The wizard will launch automatically after you've created new projects if you hadn't previously configured your environment for deploying applications.

You can run unsigned applications on a tablet by using a debug token. Debug tokens allow you to separate the processes of application creation and publication. You can create and test an application using a debug token, then deliver the application to a corporate lead or a client for signing and publication. When you package an application in development mode, you can debug the application, access the log files, and modify the application's sandbox and assets. The wizard will help you configure your devices for deployment, and walk you through the process of obtaining or creating debug tokens. You can deploy your unsigned applications to the tablet or simulator.

If you are using the simulator as your target, debug tokens aren't required.

When you run an unsigned application using a debug token, you can avoid:

  • changing the version number of your application
  • accessing the internet
  • exporting a release build of your application
You can deploy your applications to the tablet or simulator. The wizard will help you configure the connection to these devices. Before you run the wizard to configure your devices for deployment, you will need to configure them for networking.
