Setting up the BlackBerry Tablet Simulator

You can test the appearance and functionality of your application for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet using the BlackBerry Tablet Simulator. The simulator runs the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet virtual machine in a VMware player, allowing you to test the appearance and functionality of your application.

Before you can configure the BlackBerry Tablet Simulator you need to complete the following:

The VMware player is free to download for Windows developers. Mac developers must purchase VMware Fusion to run the simulator.

Run the BlackBerry Tablet Simulator in a Windows environment

  1. On the Home screen, click Open a Virtual Machine.
  2. On the Open a Virtual Machine screen, navigate to the folder where you downloaded the BlackBerry Tablet Simulator.
  3. Click the BlackBerryPlayBookSimulator.vmx file.
  4. Click Open.
  5. Click Play virtual machine.

After you finish: It is recommended that you take a snapshot of the virtual machine so that you can return the virtual machine to a known stable state if necessary. To learn how to take a snapshot, view the online help in VMware Player.

Run the BlackBerry Tablet Simulator in a Mac environment

  1. In VMware Fusion, click File > Open.
  2. On the Open a Virtual Machine screen, navigate to the folder where you downloaded the BlackBerry Tablet Simulator.
  3. Click the BlackBerryPlayBookSimulator.vmx file.
  4. Click Open.
  5. Click OK.
