Configure networking for the tablet or simulator
Depending on whether you want to use the simulator or the tablet, you need to configure the device to be able to communicate with your host computer. For development, you need to connect your device over the network. You can connect a tablet using two methods: using WI-FI or through the USB cable.
To connect using USB:
- Connect your host computer to the device using a USB cable.
- On your host computer, you'll be prompted by the BlackBerry® Device Manager
installer to install the appropriate drivers on the device.
Now, an IP address will be available each time the device starts.
To enable Development Mode if it is not currently set:
- Connect to the device.
- Click the Settings icon.
- Select Security in the left navigator.
- Select Development Mode from the list of security options.
- Next to the Use Development Mode label, set the Development Mode setting to ON.
- When prompted, type the password for your device, and click OK.
- Click Back to exit the Development Mode screen.
- On the home screen of the device, to verify that the Development Mode was set,
verify that the Development Mode icon is displayed at the top:
To disable Development Mode:
- Click the Setting icon.
- Select Security in the left navigator.
- Select Development Mode from the list of security options.
- Next to the Use Development Mode label, set the Development Mode setting to OFF.
Retrieve the IP address of the tablet or simulator
The Deployment Setup Wizard will autodetect your devices that are in Developemend Mode. However, in the event that it doesn't, you will need to provide the IP address to the wizard to deploy your application in the tablet or the simulator. To display the IP address, the device must be in Development Mode. You can view the IP address by clicking the Development Mode icon to the right of the clock on the status bar.
