Build and test

There are a few important things to remember when building and testing your app using the BlackBerry 10 Native SDK.

Using the bar-descriptor.xml file

The bar-descriptor.xml file defines parameters for identifying, installing, and launching your app on the BlackBerry 10 OS. You must ensure that all the appropriate properties are set correctly for your app. For more information, see The bar-descriptor.xml file.

Adding external libraries

You may have libraries outside of the Native SDK that you want to include in your project's build. The Add Library Dependency wizard walks you through the process of adding libraries, whether they are uncompiled source in your workspace or previously built libraries on your host file system. For more information, see Using libraries.

Support for multiple app icons and splash screens

BlackBerry 10 devices use different screen resolutions. For example, the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone uses a resolution of 768 x 1280 and the BlackBerry Q10 smartphone uses a resolution of 720 x 720. Your app should include an icon and a splash screen that support the resolutions of the devices that you want your app to run on. You specify icons and splash screens in the bar-descriptor.xml file and you can add them for each supported screen resolution. The BlackBerry 10 OS chooses the correct icon and splash screen to use based on the device that the app is running on.

For more information about device resolutions and other characteristics, see Device characteristics.
