Explore the Momentics IDE
The Momentics IDE for BlackBerry is the key development tool used for creating applications using the BlackBerry 10 Native SDK. If you have experience with Eclipse, most of the features of the IDE should be familiar to you. If you don't, don't worry, we step through what you need to know.
The BlackBerry 10 Native SDK includes all of the tools—the Momentics IDE, a compiler, a linker, libraries, and command-line tools—that you need to start developing applications for BlackBerry 10 devices.
The workbench and perspectives
When you open the IDE for the first time, the Welcome page is displayed. You can use this page to access key resources, such as sample apps, quickly. You can access this page by clicking Help > Open Welcome Page.
A workbench is the basic UI of the IDE and consists of perspectives, views, and editors for working with your resources. A perspective determines what you see in the UI and the layout of the UI. You can access a perspective using Window > Open Perspective.
Views are the windows that appear in the perspective and vary based on the perspective. You can access individual views using Window > Show View.
There are various perspectives that you can use depending on what you are trying to do. If you are working in core, then you will most likely work in the C/C++ perspective. This is the default perspective but if it isn't displayed, you can open it by clicking Window > Open Perspective > C/C++.
There are other perspectives that you might find useful. The Debug perspective shows you all of the tools related to debugging, and the QNX System Information perspective provides a complete and detailed report on your system's resource allocation and use.
