Types of digital goods

You can sell a number of different types of digital goods from your application.

Digital goods can be described as one of the following:
  • Static such as e-books or games.
  • Consumables such as game resources, movie rentals, or other goods that diminish over time.
  • Subscriptions for magazines, newspapers and such.
You will have to decide which model is most appropriate for your app, as this corresponds to the licensing model described in Registering digital goods with BlackBerry World.

Digital goods can be made up of the following:

Digital content

Digital content can include items such as e-books, magazines, photos, maps, or virtual property that you can use in an application on a BlackBerry device.

Additional functionality

Additional functionality can include new features, games within a game, game levels, or characters. You can either unlock the additional functionality in the application after a purchase is made, or download this from a content server.

Dynamic content and services

Your application can provide dynamic content and services that BlackBerry device users can purchase, such as video streaming or voice transcription.

For information about restrictions on the types of digital goods that you can sell in your applications, see the BlackBerry World Vendor Guidelines.
