    What types of applications qualify?

The BlackBerry Dev Alpha testing devices were given out in response to developer requests for testing hardware. They are a development tool that goes hand in hand with our priority native toolsets — the BlackBerry 10 Native SDK, BlackBerry 10 WebWorks and BlackBerry 10 SDK for Adobe AIR. The Limited Edition BlackBerry 10 device is a way for us to show our appreciation for those developers who have used these tools to make amazing apps.

Keeping with this theme, qualifying apps must meet the following criteria:

    Terms & Conditions

Do applications developed using the BlackBerry App Generator qualify?

Although the BlackBerry App Generator is a great tool and we fully support its use and intention, users of that tool do not need a Dev Alpha device to produce an app, and so those applications do not qualify.

What happens if my application doesn't meet the qualifications?

If your application does not meet the qualifications you can update the application per the Terms & Conditions and re-submit by March 31st, 2013.

What happens after the trade has been requested?

You will receive a confirmation email that you have requested to trade in your Dev Alpha device. Once the shipping process is initiated you will be contacted with instructions on how to return your Dev Alpha device. After the Dev Alpha has been received, the new device will be shipped once available post BlackBerry 10 launch on January 30th, 2013.

When should I return my Dev Alpha device?

Once you receive notification that your application has been approved for the Limited Edition program, you can follow the shipping instructions provided at any time. However RIM will not begin shipping Limited Edition devices until 6-8 weeks after BlackBerry 10 Launch on January 30th, 2013.

I've started the exchange process, how long will it take to receive my Limited Edition?

    • 1-3 weeks for the return of the Dev Alpha to be completed
