Troubleshooting

The BlackBerry Desktop Software does not say there is updated software available

If the BlackBerry Device Software does not indicate that there is a software update, you must restore your device to the factory defaults. All your device data, settings, and most applications will be deleted.

  1. Connect your BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device to your computer.
  2. If you need to back up your device data, in the BlackBerry Desktop Software, perform one of the following tasks:

  3. In Windows

Click Device > Back up. Select the options for how you want to back up your data. Click Back up. For more information, see the BlackBerry Desktop Software online help topic Back up smartphone date or tablet data.

    In Mac

Click the Back Up icon at the top of the screen. Select the options for how you want to back up your data. Click Back up. For more information, see the BlackBerry Desktop Software online help topic Back up smartphone date or tablet data.

  4. After you have backed up your device, with the BlackBerry Desktop Software still running, and your device still connected, restart your device. On the device, tap the battery icon in the top right corner. Tap Restart.

The BlackBerry Desktop Software prompts you with a message saying it cannot communicate with the device.

  5. Click Update. A dialog box appears requesting that you confirm the repair of the device. Repairing your device resets it to the factory defaults.
  6. Click Repair. The repair can take up to an hour. After it completes, the BlackBerry Desktop Software prompts you about software updates available for your device. See step 4 above for instructions on installing the software update.
  7. After the upgrade completes, if you backed up your device data, restore you device data.
  8. In Windows

In the BlackBerry Desktop Software, click Device > Restore. Select the appropriate restore options. Click Restore. For more information, see the BlackBerry Desktop Software online help topic Restore smartphone data or tablet data.

    In Mac

Click the Restore icon at the top of the screen. Click a backup file. Select the appropriate restore options. Click Restore. For more information, see the BlackBerry Desktop Software online help topic Restore smartphone data or tablet data.
