Set up your test environment

Configure your BlackBerry PlayBook

If you are using a BlackBerry PlayBook to test your app, you must have the latest version of the BlackBerry Tablet OS installed on your tablet. To download the latest BlackBerry Tablet OS, click here.

Once you have installed the latest OS, make sure to switch your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to the development mode.

  1. To switch to the development mode, on your home screen, on the status bar, tap Settings Icon > Security.
  2. Set the User Development Mode switch to ON.

Install and configure a BlackBerry device simulator

If you don't have a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to test your apps on, you can use the BlackBerry Tablet Simulator or the BlackBerry 10 Device Simulator to run your applications as if they were on an actual device.

The simulator is hosted inside a virtual machine which supports accelerated graphics, audio, and peripheral simulation. This lets you test your application and simulate the touch interface using your mouse. For more information on installing and configuring the simulator, click here.
