Backup and restore your code signing keys

BlackBerry ID tokens do not need to be backed up. At any time you can log into your BlackBerry ID account and download a new BlackBerry ID token. However, you can backup your BlackBerry ID token (bbidtoken.csk) and developer certificates (author.p12) and restore them to the same or new computer. If you sign your application with a different BlackBerry ID token and deploy it to a BlackBerry device, your application appears as a new application, not an upgrade, and cannot access shared data from the previous version.

Using your backup files, you can:
  • Restore the BlackBerry ID token and developer certificates to the original computer
  • Install the BlackBerry ID token and developer certificates on another computer
  • Share the BlackBerry ID token and developer certificates within an organization or between developers

It is important that you protect your backup files, BlackBerry ID token, and developer certificate. If someone obtains your backup files, they can use your code signing credentials to sign an application.
